I wanted to include this resource because disability in the workplace can look very different from one person to another — and many of the barriers somebody experiences may not be immediately visible.
Disability can include physical and sensory needs, neurodivergence such as autism, ADHD and dyslexia, mental health difficulties, chronic illness and other non-visible conditions.
For me, one of the most important messages is that a diagnosis alone does not tell us what somebody can or cannot do.
Instead of focusing only on a label, I believe we need to ask:
“What is getting in the way of this person being able to work well — and what could we put in place to reduce those barriers?”
Sometimes relatively small changes in communication, equipment, working patterns, environment or practical support can make an enormous difference.
Creating an inclusive workplace isn’t about expecting everyone to work in exactly the same way. It’s about recognising that people may need different things in order to have an equal opportunity to contribute, develop and thrive at work.
I hope this resource helps start those conversations.
