Notice the Pattern: My Bigger Picture
Sometimes it is difficult to understand what is affecting us when we focus on one symptom at a time. Mood, sleep, stress, appetite, digestion and energy can overlap and influence one another.
For one week, make a short daily check-in:
Mood: ___ /10
Energy: ___ /10
Appetite: ___ /10
Digestion/comfort: ___ /10
Sleep: ___ /10
Stress: ___ /10
Hunger cues: Clear / Subtle / Hard to notice
Sensory load: Low / Medium / High
Add a little context
You don't need to record everything you eat or analyse your entire day. A few simple observations can be enough.
Today I noticed: __________
Something that felt different: __________
My body seemed to need: __________
Something that helped: __________
You might also notice whether the day involved more activity, less sleep, illness, medication changes, hormonal changes, emotional demands, sensory overload, disrupted routines or long gaps between eating.
At the end of the week, zoom out
Rather than asking “What did I do wrong?”, look for connections:
What tends to change together?
Does lower sleep seem to sit alongside lower energy? Does stress coincide with digestive discomfort? Does appetite change on particularly demanding days? Are hunger signals harder to recognise when you're busy or hyperfocused? Does your mood change when eating becomes less regular?
A pattern doesn't automatically prove that one thing caused another. It simply gives you useful information to explore.
Don't only look for difficult patterns
Also notice what happens on the days that feel easier.
What was different? Did you have more rest? More predictable meals? Less sensory demand? More support? Easier access to food? Better hydration? More time to decompress?
These patterns can be just as valuable.
Your bigger picture isn't about finding a “perfect” day. It's about understanding the conditions in which your mind and body seem to function more comfortably.
