Pacing & Protecting My Energy
What to do:
Pacing is about finding a more sustainable balance between activity, responsibility and recovery. It does not mean giving up or avoiding everything that is difficult.
Begin by thinking about the things you regularly push yourself through. What happens when you continue despite feeling tired, overwhelmed or physically uncomfortable?
Identify your personal signs that tell you it may be time to pause. These could be physical, emotional, cognitive or sensory.
Then look at the demands in your life. Could some tasks be broken into smaller steps? Could anything be postponed, shared, delegated or simplified?
Think about what type of rest genuinely helps you recover. Rest does not necessarily mean sleeping or doing nothing. For some people it might mean quiet, movement, reduced sensory input, being outdoors or doing something enjoyable without pressure.
Finally, imagine what a more sustainable day might look like and choose one small thing you could pace differently.
