What Helps My Body Feel Safe?

What to do:
Feeling safe is not only about knowing intellectually that you are safe. Our bodies can respond strongly to noise, unpredictability, particular environments, people, sensory experiences and previous experiences.

Use this worksheet to identify what helps your body feel settled and comfortable.

Think about places where you naturally feel more relaxed, people around whom you do not feel you need to perform or hide how you are feeling, and sensory experiences that help you regulate.

Consider lighting, noise, temperature, clothing, textures, smells, movement and personal space. You might also think about objects that provide comfort, such as headphones, blankets, familiar items, fidget tools or something meaningful to you.

Then explore what tends to create overwhelm.

This is not about creating a perfectly controlled environment. Instead, use what you discover to identify small adjustments that could make everyday spaces feel more manageable.
