Being able to see more than one way

Explore different perspectives, create alternative approaches and choose a manageable next step. There is no right score and no pressure to change your thinking.

1. Explore five pathways

Select a pathway to reveal a different thinking skill and a practical question.

2. Try a real-life scenario

Choose a response to explore what it might offer.

These are possibilities, not judgements. Your needs and circumstances matter.

3. The perspective laboratory

Use the questions to move from one fixed interpretation to a wider range of possibilities.

4. Adjust the conditions

Imagine how much room you have for flexible thinking today. This illustration shows how rest, clarity and support may help; it is not a psychological test.

5. Build your flexible-thinking plan

Choose a small, realistic adjustment. Flexibility can mean keeping a boundary and changing the route, not forcing yourself to cope without support.

Understanding the evidence

Cognitive flexibility is an aspect of executive functioning. Switching between tasks or perspectives can require effort, particularly under stress. Being flexible does not mean always changing your mind or tolerating inaccessible environments.
