Your career, your direction

Finding work that fits is about more than choosing a job title. It means exploring the activities you enjoy, how you work best, what makes work difficult and what support could make opportunities accessible.

Explore what suits you

Understand your interests, talents, preferred environments and what matters most.

Consider accessibility

Identify reasonable adjustments, working patterns, communication preferences and support needs.

You do not need formal qualifications, a clear career goal or previous employment experience to use this resource. You can explore possibilities without committing to them.

1. What interests me?

Select subjects, activities or environments you might enjoy exploring. These are starting points, not restrictions.

2. Recognising my strengths

Strengths are not limited to qualifications. They can include lived experience, specialised interests, creativity, empathy and practical skills.

A skill does not have to come easily every day to be a genuine strength. Everyone's abilities can vary with fatigue, health, environment and available support.

3. What helps me work well?

Think about the working conditions that support your wellbeing, energy and ability to do your job.

Reasonable adjustments

In the UK, employers have legal duties under the Equality Act 2010 to make reasonable adjustments for disabled workers and applicants where applicable. Adjustments depend on individual circumstances and may include changes to working arrangements, equipment, communication or the environment.

Access to Work may also be able to provide support for eligible people whose disability or health condition affects their work.

4. Exploring possible career directions

Your selected interests can suggest areas worth researching. These are examples, not a formal career assessment or prediction of suitability.

Ideas of my own

A career can involve paid work, self-employment, part-time roles, supported employment, training, apprenticeships or volunteering. Your route does not have to be the same as someone else's.

5. My Job Fit Explorer

Use this space to compare a possible job against what matters to you. There are no automatic scores because personal fit is more complex than a number.

What I still need to find out

6. Creating my next-step plan

You do not need to decide on an entire career today. A small, achievable next step is enough.

Remember

Changing direction, taking a break, adjusting working hours or exploring something new does not mean you have failed. Your circumstances and needs are allowed to change.
