Understanding My Mental Health: A Six-Page Personal Workbook
Mental health is shaped by far more than a diagnosis or a difficult day. Our emotions, thoughts, bodies, relationships, environments, identities, responsibilities and past experiences can all influence how we feel and cope. Understanding My Mental Health is a compassionate six-page workbook that helps readers explore the whole picture and build a clearer, more personal understanding of what supports their wellbeing.
The workbook begins with a mental health snapshot, including simple scales for mood, energy and stress, alongside space to recognise what is going well, what feels difficult and what may be influencing the present moment. It encourages reflection without asking the reader to judge, minimise or immediately fix their experience.
Further pages help readers recognise early warning signs, triggers, coping patterns and the things that intensify or soften distress. A dedicated needs page explores physical, sensory, emotional and practical needs, as well as boundaries that may protect wellbeing. This is followed by a personal support map covering trusted people, helpful places, meaningful activities, professional care and different levels of connection.
The final page brings these reflections together into an individual mental health plan. Readers can describe what life looks like when they are doing well, identify signs that they are beginning to struggle, explain what they need from others and create a stepped response for difficult periods. It also includes space for urgent support information, a compassionate personal message and one realistic next step.
This resource may be useful for adults, teenagers, people exploring their mental health for the first time, neurodivergent people, those living with long-term emotional or physical health difficulties, and anyone wishing to communicate their needs more clearly. It can be completed independently or used alongside a therapist, coach, support worker, family member or trusted friend.
The workbook uses an inviting pathway-and-journal design with colourful reflection panels, check boxes, rating scales and generous writing spaces. There is no requirement to complete it in order or all at once. Readers are encouraged to pause, adapt the language and focus on what feels most relevant to them.
