UNEQUAL RECOGNITION
When others receive the praise and your contributions are overlooked, it can leave you feeling invisible at work.
Recognition is not about needing constant praise. Sometimes it is simply about knowing that the time, care, ideas and effort you have put into something have actually been seen.
Perhaps someone else is thanked for a piece of work you contributed to. Maybe your idea seems to be noticed only when somebody else repeats it. Or perhaps you quietly keep things running behind the scenes while the more visible work receives all the attention.
When this happens repeatedly, it can begin to affect confidence and motivation. You may work even harder to prove yourself, stop putting ideas forward, compare yourself with colleagues or begin to wonder whether your contribution matters at all.
In this guide, I explore why unequal recognition can happen, the effect it can have on wellbeing and belonging, and practical ways to make your contribution more visible without feeling that you have to constantly prove your worth.
Your work matters, even when somebody has failed to acknowledge it.
You deserve fairness, appreciation and the opportunity to be recognised for what you bring.
