Anorexia Nervosa

I have created this Anorexia Nervosa resource as a compassionate place to begin if food, eating or the thoughts around them are becoming difficult, frightening, exhausting or isolating.

Anorexia nervosa is a serious eating disorder and mental health condition. Restriction, fear around weight gain and changes in the way weight or shape are experienced can become increasingly powerful. It is not vanity, attention-seeking or a lifestyle choice. A person may miss meals, reduce portions, develop strict rituals, exercise compulsively or use other behaviours to influence weight.

The full article looks at what may be happening underneath the eating-disorder behaviours, the impact on physical and emotional health, what recovery and treatment may involve, and how family or friends can offer support without adding shame or pressure.

At the end you will find a dedicated illustrated Anorexia Nervosa diary as a full A4 sheet. It gives you room to notice what happened, what felt difficult, what went well, what helped and what you may need next. This is followed by a separate illustrated My Recipe for Life A4 sheet with my personal message to you.

My Recipe for Life is not a meal plan. It is a reminder that patience, compassion, curiosity, support, rest, joy, self-trust, small steps and hope all have a place in recovery.

My message to you is that you do not have to prove you are struggling enough to deserve support. You are more than an eating disorder. Small steps matter, understanding yourself matters, and recovery is allowed to happen at your pace.

This resource is for information and reflection and does not replace medical, dietetic or specialist eating-disorder care.
