A gentle interactive activity to help you explore what recovery and support could look like for you. Your needs matter, whatever your body size.

Understanding Atypical Anorexia Nervosa

Atypical Anorexia Nervosa can involve the same restrictive eating patterns, fears and distress seen in anorexia nervosa, without the person meeting the low-weight criterion for anorexia.

It can cause serious physical and emotional harm at any body weight. Appearance does not determine how unwell someone is or whether they deserve treatment.

Step 1 — Choose Your Ingredients

Select the ingredients you would like to add to your personal recovery bowl. You can choose one, several or all five.

Step 2 — Make It Your Own

These reflections are about your experience, not numbers, body size or appearance. You can leave any question blank.

Step 3 — My Personal Recipe

Add your own ingredients and create a recovery reminder you can return to when things feel hard.

Important health information

Atypical Anorexia Nervosa can involve serious malnutrition, cardiovascular complications and other medical risks even when someone is not underweight.

If you are restricting food, feeling faint, experiencing significant weakness or struggling with eating, contact your GP or eating disorder treatment team. Urgent symptoms such as fainting with chest pain or an irregular heartbeat need urgent medical assessment. Call 999 for emergencies.

Changes to eating during recovery may require medical monitoring. This activity is not a substitute for specialist treatment.
