PRACTISING SELF-COMPASSION

Eating-disorder recovery can bring uncomfortable emotions, uncertainty and a very critical inner voice. Practising Self-Compassion is a reflective workbook designed to help you respond to those difficult moments without adding punishment or shame.

Inside, you can explore what you are being hard on yourself about, the words you use towards yourself and what may sit underneath self-criticism. The workbook helps you identify what you might actually need in difficult moments and develop responses that are kinder without becoming unrealistic or dismissive.

There are dedicated exercises for changing critical self-talk, recognising your effort and pairing kinder language with practical recovery-supportive actions. A section focused specifically on food and body-image distress helps you consider difficult meals, body checking, comparison, boundaries and alternatives to self-punishment.

The final page gives you a simple self-compassion practice to return to, alongside recommended books, eating-disorder support resources and a personal message from Space to Breathe Therapy.

This workbook can be used independently or alongside a therapist, eating-disorder professional, dietitian, GP or trusted person. It is for reflection and support and does not replace individual medical assessment or eating-disorder treatment.
