SUPPORTING MYSELF THROUGH DIFFICULT MEALTIMES
Difficult mealtimes can be one of the most demanding parts of living with or recovering from an eating disorder. This practical workbook helps you identify what makes eating difficult and create individual support for before, during and after a meal.
Inside, you can explore emotional, cognitive, environmental and sensory triggers; recognise the signs that a meal is becoming difficult; and identify what helps you prepare without adding more pressure or rigid rules.
The workbook includes dedicated sections for the meal itself and the period afterwards. You can plan helpful communication, company or distraction, grounding and regulation strategies, ways to respond to eating-disorder thoughts, alternatives to checking or compensatory behaviours, and the support you want from other people.
The final page brings everything together into a simple personal mealtime plan and includes recommended eating-disorder reading, UK support resources and a personal message from Space to Breathe Therapy.
This workbook can be used independently or alongside a therapist, eating-disorder professional, dietitian, GP or trusted person. It is designed for reflection and support and does not replace an individual treatment plan, nutritional advice or medical assessment. If you are physically unwell, at immediate risk or concerned about rapid deterioration, seek urgent medical support.
