FOODS THAT TRIGGER BLOATING
When bloating follows a meal, it is easy to start blaming individual foods. But digestive triggers are personal, and a food appearing on a generic “bloating list” does not mean that you need to stop eating it.
This Space to Breathe Therapy resource explains why certain carbohydrates, fibre, lactose, portion sizes and eating patterns can contribute to bloating for some people. It also looks at FODMAPs, coeliac testing and the importance of avoiding unnecessary restriction.
There is a gentler approach to identifying your own patterns, questions to consider before blaming a food, and guidance on when persistent bloating should be discussed with a GP.
Particular care is given to people with ARFID, sensory eating difficulties, eating disorders or a limited range of safe foods, where removing several foods can create additional nutritional and emotional difficulties.
The aim is informed choice rather than fear: understand your own body, protect adequate nutrition and get appropriate support when symptoms persist.
