Listening to Your Body

The symptoms we often ignore

Food can affect our bodies, emotions and everyday lives in deeply individual ways. In this resource, I explore the symptoms we often ignore with compassion, curiosity and respect for the person behind the symptoms.

When I ask them what they mean by that, the answers are often surprisingly similar.

Many people have spent months, or even years, feeling this way. They've become so used to living with these symptoms that they've started to believe it's simply part of getting older, being busy or dealing with stress.

Life is demanding, and stress can have a huge impact on both our physical and emotional wellbeing.

Over the years, both through my own experiences and the work I do with clients, I've learned that our bodies are constantly communicating with us. The challenge is that we often become so busy listening to everyone else that we stop listening to ourselves.

This article isn't about convincing you that every symptom is caused by food. Far from it.

It's about encouraging you to become curious, to notice patterns and to recognise that persistent symptoms deserve attention rather than being dismissed.

The aim is not to create fear around food or encourage unnecessary restriction. It is to help people notice patterns, understand the difference between allergy and intolerance, and make informed decisions with appropriate support.

Testing should be considered alongside symptoms, clinical history and appropriate professional advice. A food allergy can be serious: suspected immediate allergy symptoms require medical assessment. IgG food-reactivity testing is different from diagnostic IgE allergy testing and remains debated, so results should not be used alone to diagnose illness or begin a highly restrictive diet.
