Mediterranean Diet

The Mediterranean diet is less about following a strict set of rules and more about an overall pattern of eating. It is traditionally rich in vegetables, fruit, beans and pulses, wholegrains, nuts, seeds and olive oil, with fish, eggs, poultry and dairy foods included in varying amounts.

In this guide we look at what Mediterranean-style eating actually means, the foods commonly included, what the evidence says about potential health benefits, and some of the misconceptions that can turn a flexible way of eating into another restrictive diet.

You will also find practical meal ideas, gentle ways to introduce Mediterranean-style choices, considerations around allergies and intolerances, sensory differences, ARFID and eating disorders, medical conditions and food costs, plus a simple reflection page to help you consider what might realistically work for you.

There is no single 'perfect' Mediterranean diet. Food needs to be safe, accessible and appropriate for the individual. This resource is designed to help you understand the approach without creating more pressure or rigid food rules.
