Mindful Eating
Mindful eating is about bringing awareness, curiosity and kindness to the experience of food. It is not a diet, a weight-loss method or another set of rules to follow perfectly.
This full Space to Breathe Therapy Nutrition Library guide explores hunger, fullness, taste, satisfaction, emotions, food rules and the environment around eating.
It includes practical ways to experiment with mindful eating without analysing every mouthful. The guide explains why eating slowly and removing screens may help some people but should never become compulsory rules.
There are dedicated sections on emotional eating, self-compassion and developing a wider coping toolbox. The resource also considers how mindful eating needs to be adapted for ARFID, autism and sensory processing differences, ADHD, interoception differences, trauma and eating-disorder recovery.
Importantly, distraction can sometimes support eating. Someone who needs television, music, familiar routines or predictable safe foods in order to eat adequately should not be made to remove those supports simply in the name of mindfulness.
The guide finishes with a personal mindful-eating check-in, a simple one-meal experiment, further reading and a supportive message from Space to Breathe Therapy.
Mindful eating is not about performing meals perfectly. It is about creating a little more space for awareness, choice and kindness around food.
