The Recipe for Emotional Numbness
A Gentle Reminder
A gentle reminder for the moments when you feel disconnected from yourself.
Emotional numbness can feel confusing and frightening. You may notice that feelings seem distant, muted or absent, or that your body feels flat, heavy or unreal. This does not mean that you are empty, uncaring or broken. Sometimes numbness is the nervous system's way of protecting you when life has felt overwhelming for too long.
You do not have to force yourself to feel or make everything return at once. Begin gently. Notice the warmth of a drink, the texture of something in your hand, the air on your skin or the sound of familiar music. A small sensory moment can help you reconnect with your body without adding pressure.
Please keep The Recipe for Emotional Numbness somewhere you can easily find it - or pop it on your fridge as a reminder to treat yourself with kindness. Feeling can return slowly and safely. Even noticing that you feel nothing is still a form of awareness and a small step towards reconnecting.
You are not empty; you may be protected. There is still something here, even when it feels faint. Give yourself time, gentle care and safe connection. You are allowed to reconnect at your own pace, one small moment at a time.
With warmth,
Maggie Learoyd MNCPS
