The Autistic Survival Guide to Therapy
By Steph Jones
I chose this book because therapy does not always feel accessible or safe for autistic people. Traditional approaches can sometimes overlook sensory needs, communication differences, masking and autistic ways of processing emotions.
This book can help autistic people understand what they may need from therapy and recognise that it is acceptable to ask for adjustments. It may also be valuable for therapists, families and supporters who want to create more genuinely neuro-affirming care.
Books can help us feel understood, introduce us to new ways of thinking and sometimes give us the words for experiences we have never been able to explain.
I have carefully chosen these books because each one offers something meaningful. Some provide practical strategies, while others share personal experiences that may help you feel less alone.
You do not need to read a book from beginning to end or complete it quickly. Take your time, pause whenever you need to and keep only the ideas that feel helpful to you.
Warmly,
Maggie
