The Picky Eater’s Recovery Book
By Jennifer J. Thomas, Kendra R. Becker and Kamryn T. Eddy
I recommend this book for adults experiencing ARFID, extreme food anxiety or a very limited range of safe foods.
As someone with lived experience of ARFID, I understand that eating difficulties are not simply a matter of being ‘fussy’. Fear, sensory discomfort, previous experiences and the body’s protective responses can all affect what feels possible.
Please approach this book gently. Recovery does not mean forcing yourself or having your safe foods removed. It means developing understanding, safety and choice at a pace your nervous system can manage.
Books can help us feel understood, introduce us to new ways of thinking and sometimes give us the words for experiences we have never been able to explain.
I have carefully chosen these books because each one offers something meaningful. Some provide practical strategies, while others share personal experiences that may help you feel less alone.
You do not need to read a book from beginning to end or complete it quickly. Take your time, pause whenever you need to and keep only the ideas that feel helpful to you.
Warmly,
Maggie
