A Letter to You When You Feel Lost
Feeling lost does not always look like a crisis. Sometimes life continues around you while inside you are quietly wondering where you are going, what you want, or whether the life you have built still fits the person you have become.
This letter is for that in-between place.
You may feel lost after grief, separation, illness, burnout, diagnosis, redundancy, children growing up, a relationship changing or a plan that did not happen. Or perhaps there was no single event at all. Sometimes we spend so long meeting responsibilities and adapting to what everybody else needs that we lose touch with what we need ourselves.
This is not a letter that gives you a map or tells you to find your purpose.
Instead, Maggie invites you to slow the questions down.
What drains you now? What have you outgrown? What do you miss? What makes you curious? Where do you feel most like yourself?
The letter explores why uncertainty can feel frightening, the grief that can accompany personal change, comparison with other people's lives, and the fear that you are somehow behind.
It also reminds you that there is no single route through adulthood. Lives change shape. People begin again at every age, and changing direction does not mean everything that came before was wasted.
Perhaps you do not need to find the old version of yourself.
Perhaps you are getting to know the person you are now.
Keep this letter for the days when everybody else seems to know where they are going and you do not. You do not need to have the whole route worked out. Sometimes direction begins with one small piece of information about what feels right, what no longer fits, or what you would like to explore next.
Perhaps you are not lost. Perhaps the old map simply no longer describes the landscape.
You can draw another one slowly.
A personal letter from Maggie at Space to Breathe Therapy.
