One Hard Thing, One Good Thing
When a week has been difficult, the hard moments can become the story we remember. At other times, we may feel pressure to focus only on positives and unintentionally minimise something that genuinely hurt. Both experiences can exist together.
What this activity is for
One Hard Thing, One Good Thing is a simple weekly reflection that creates space for both. It encourages you to acknowledge something that was difficult while also noticing something that felt good, comforting, meaningful or simply a little easier.
What you need to do
Think back over your week and choose one hard thing and one good thing to record. Neither needs to be dramatic. You can then use the reflection space to notice what the difficult experience needed from you, what the positive experience gave you and anything you would like to carry into the week ahead.
A little note from me
You never have to find a positive in something painful to justify how you feel about it. The good thing doesn’t cancel out the hard thing, and the hard thing doesn’t erase everything good. This is simply a space where both parts of your week are allowed to be true at the same time.
