The Control Circles
When something feels uncertain or overwhelming, our attention can easily become fixed on everything that could happen, everything other people might do and everything we wish we could change.
What this activity is for
The Control Circles helps separate what you can influence from what sits outside of your control. It isn’t about dismissing the things you cannot change. Instead, it can help you decide where your energy may be most useful right now.
What you need to do
Think about the situation that is occupying your mind and place different parts of it into the appropriate areas of the activity. Consider what you can directly control, what you may be able to influence and what you cannot control. Then notice where you might want to place your attention next.
A little note from me
Something being outside of your control doesn’t mean you aren’t allowed to care about it. It simply means you don’t have to make yourself responsible for changing something that isn’t yours to carry alone. Save some of that energy for the things you can gently influence.
