Untangle the Thought
A single thought can sometimes gather assumptions, fears, memories and predictions around it until everything becomes tangled together. When that happens, what we think, what we know and what we fear can begin to feel like the same thing.
What this activity is for
Untangle the Thought creates some space around a difficult or repetitive thought. It is designed to encourage curiosity about where the thought may have come from, what is supporting it and whether there are other ways of looking at the situation.
What you need to do
Choose one thought you would like to explore and work through the prompts gradually. Try to separate what you know from what you are assuming or predicting. You do not have to replace the original thought with something unrealistically positive. The aim is simply to find a perspective that feels a little more balanced and complete.
A little note from me
Not every difficult thought needs to be argued with. Sometimes we just need enough distance to look at it rather than automatically believing everything it tells us. Give yourself permission to be curious about your thoughts without judging yourself for having them.
