What’s Taking Up Space?
Introduction
Our minds can become crowded with responsibilities, worries, unfinished conversations, reminders, decisions and thoughts that keep returning. When several things are competing for our attention at once, it can be difficult to recognise just how much mental space they are taking up.
What this activity is for
What’s Taking Up Space? is designed to help make some of that invisible mental load visible. It creates an opportunity to identify what has been occupying your thoughts and notice which things feel particularly large, persistent or demanding.
What you need to do
Use the available space to add whatever has been taking up room in your mind. You might include practical responsibilities, emotions, relationships, worries, decisions or things you keep reminding yourself not to forget. Allow different things to take up different amounts of space if that represents how they feel to you.
A little note from me
You carry so many things in your mind that other people may never see. Putting some of them onto paper won’t necessarily make them disappear, but it can mean you don’t have to hold every single one in your head at the same time.
