ADHD overwhelm
ADHD OVERWHELM — MOMENTS THAT CAN INTENSIFY THE LOAD
ADHD overwhelm can happen when the brain is being asked to hold, filter, prioritise, remember and respond to too much at once. The thing that finally tips someone over the edge may look small, while the accumulated load underneath is much larger.
This full Space to Breathe Therapy guide explores six common pressure points: too many open tasks; noise, messages and people; unclear priorities; unexpected change; too little recovery time; and trying to remember everything.
Inside, we look at what overwhelm can feel like, practical lower-demand responses, support from family and others, workplace and education considerations, and ways to externalise memory and priorities. The guide also contains a detailed personal ADHD Overwhelm Map, a message from Maggie, book recommendations and professional information sources.
The central message is simple: notice the load, pause, reduce demands and recover. Sometimes the most useful intervention is not asking the brain to try harder, but giving it less to carry.
