Autism and Co-occurring Conditions

Understand the whole person.

Autism can occur alongside ADHD, anxiety, learning disabilities or specific learning differences such as dyslexia. These are distinct and can interact in different ways. No two people have the same combination of experiences and support needs.

What would you like to understand?

Choose an area for reflection. The choices do not identify or rule out any condition.

Begin with your experience.

Build a fuller picture

You can describe a need before knowing its explanation.

Look beyond a single label

Similar difficulties can have different causes. Trouble concentrating, for example, might relate to attention differences, worry, sensory demands, sleep or several factors together. A diagnosis alone cannot explain every difficulty or predict someone’s abilities.

Learning disability and specific learning differences are not interchangeable terms. Ask for explanations that make sense to you, and avoid assuming that one label means another must also apply.

Support can start with what makes daily life easier: accessible information, practical help, sensory adjustments and time to recover. If you want assessment or treatment, share concrete examples with a GP or relevant clinician.

New or changing health concerns deserve attention in their own right. These reflection prompts are not a screening tool or substitute for individual assessment.
