Caring Responsibilities — When Looking After Everyone Else Leaves Little Space for You

Caring for somebody can involve enormous love and commitment, but it can also bring a level of responsibility that other people may never fully see.

This resource is for people caring for a child, partner, parent, relative or somebody else who needs additional support because of illness, disability, additional needs or changing independence.

It explores the practical and emotional load of caring: appointments, medication, advocacy, household responsibilities, interrupted rest, financial pressure, guilt and the feeling that you always have to be available.

The guide looks at signs of carer overwhelm, why needing a break can create guilt, boundaries within caring and practical ways to share or reduce some of the load. It also includes a caring-responsibilities check-in, UK sources of carer support, further reading and a supportive message.

You can care deeply about somebody and still feel exhausted. Your own needs do not stop mattering because somebody else needs you.
