Changes in Plans and Autism

Making the next step clearer, with room to process what has changed.

Unexpected changes can feel stressful for some autistic people. Clear information, time to adjust and knowing what stays the same can help. This activity lets you explore options and make a plan in your own words.

Explore a change

Choose a situation. Reveal the information that could make it clearer.

Choose support that fits

There is no correct combination. Choose any options you would like to explore.

My change map

This activity does not send your writing anywhere.

Words I could use

Helping someone through a change

Explain the change clearly and give notice when possible. Name what you know, what is uncertain and when you will give another update. Ask what support helps, rather than deciding how big the change ought to feel.

Offer processing time, fewer questions or a written update if wanted. Avoid demanding an immediate positive reaction. A new plan can be necessary and still take effort to adjust to.

Space to Breathe Therapy

Experiences of change vary. This is a reflection activity, not a test of autism or flexibility. Use what fits and leave the rest.
