Dyscalculia – The Maths Café

The Maths Café is a printable role-play game that turns everyday money skills into a practical, playful activity. Players can take turns being the customer and café worker while using a menu, order cards and pretend or real money to explore prices, totals, change, sharing, estimating and budgeting.
The activities move away from traditional classroom-style maths sheets. Instead, the numbers have a real purpose: reading a menu, taking an order, checking whether there is enough money, working out change, comparing a special offer, splitting a bill and serving a busy table.
Calculators, fingers, written steps, coins, drawings and support from another person are all welcome. There is no timer and no requirement to complete the activities mentally.
The printable pack includes a full café menu, ten activities, cut-out order cards, a strategy toolkit and a separate answer/support guide with ideas for adapting the game.
The Maths Café is designed to build confidence and explore practical strategies. It is not a dyscalculia screening or diagnostic assessment.
