Finding a Starting Point with ADHD

Experiment with support that fits the task and the day.

Knowing a task matters does not always make it easy to begin. Some people with ADHD find interest, variety or a manageable challenge helpful. These are possibilities to explore, not a complete explanation of ADHD or a formula that works for everyone.

Try a different way in

Select a possibility. You can choose a practical adjustment instead of trying to make every task exciting.

What might make this task more approachable?

Everyday examples

Choose an example to explore a starting point.

If it still feels hard

Check whether the task is unclear, too large, uncomfortable or beyond your current energy. Rest, practical help, a different environment or reducing the demand may be more useful than adding novelty.

Urgency sometimes prompts action, but deliberately creating panic can add stress. Consider a supportive checkpoint or reminder instead. You do not need to earn food, drink, breaks or essential care by completing a task.

About these ideas

This is a reflection activity, not an assessment or treatment. A strategy can help on one occasion and be unhelpful on another. Persistent difficulties deserve support, rather than blame.
