FOUR-BOX NOTE TAKING
A flexible page for sorting ideas, questions and next steps
Space to Breathe Therapy
This four-box note-taking page gives you four spaces to organise information. The boxes are left open so you can decide what each one is for. You might use the first to capture key ideas, the second for supporting details or examples, the third for questions or connections, and the fourth for a short summary and next step.
HOW TO USE THE PAGE
Before you begin, add the topic and any other details that help you find or remember the notes later. Decide what you want each box to hold. The headings do not have to stay the same each time: choose prompts that suit the lesson, meeting, reading or task in front of you.
While listening or reading, jot down keywords, short phrases, examples, questions or quick sketches. You do not need to write every word. If an idea could fit in more than one box, put it where it makes sense to you. You can add an arrow or a small note to show how two ideas connect.
When you finish, scan the four boxes. Mark the point you most want to remember, add a question you still have, or write one next step. If you have missed something, leave room to return to it later.
IDEAS FOR DIFFERENT TASKS
For a lesson or lecture: key ideas | details and examples | questions or new terms | summary and next step.
For a meeting: updates | decisions | questions to follow up | actions and who will do them.
For reading: main point | useful details | unfamiliar words or connections | summary in your own words.
For personal planning: goal | helpful resources | barriers or questions | first small action.
These are suggestions, not fixed rules. You can rename the boxes, use fewer than four, or arrange notes in a way that makes sense for you. The page is a practical organising tool, not a test of how much you can write or remember.
