Parenting & Family Stress — When the Responsibility Never Really Switches Off

Family life can hold enormous love while also carrying an exhausting amount of responsibility.

This Support Hub resource explores the mental and emotional load behind parenting and family stress: school runs, homework, appointments, meals, housework, work, finances, behaviour, emotions, sibling needs and the constant job of remembering what everybody needs next.

It also recognises families where neurodivergence, disability, illness, sensory differences, restricted eating, school distress or additional support needs make everyday routines more complex.

The guide looks at why several small demands can become overwhelming, what happens when everybody needs something at once, the pressure to remain calm, family conflict and repair, practical ways to reduce the mental load and when outside support may help.

A family stress check-in is included to help identify what is taking the most energy, which responsibilities could be shared or simplified and what the parent or carer needs too.

Family stress does not mean your family is failing. Sometimes it means too many needs are being held by too little time, energy and support.
