Remembering Things with ADHD

Let your surroundings carry some of the remembering.

ADHD can involve forgetfulness, distraction and losing track of everyday tasks. When something is out of sight, it may be harder to bring it back to mind. This experience varies and does not mean you do not care.

Choose a reminder approach

Tap for a practical idea. You only need to try one.

What might fit your day?

Make a cue useful

Choose something small and specific.

A reminder needs to meet you

A note helps most when it is noticeable and close to the action. Too many prompts can become background noise. Keep what is useful, change what gets missed and ask for support if maintaining the system is another burden.

“Out of sight, out of mind” describes an experience; it does not mean you believe hidden objects or people stop existing. Forgetfulness alone does not establish ADHD.
