Spontaneity and ADHD

Explore a new possibility while keeping your needs in view.

Some people with ADHD enjoy spontaneity and new experiences. Curiosity can be a strength, while a pause to consider needs, choices and consequences can help. You do not have to enjoy surprises or adventure to fit an ADHD identity.

Pick a small possibility

Choose a theme for a low-pressure invitation. You can adapt it, keep it for later or decide it is not for you.

No invitation is a task you must complete. Check that any activity fits your circumstances.

Pause and explore the choice

Choose a situation and reveal questions that could help you decide.

My possibility, my decision

You can choose yes, no, later or a smaller version.

Words that leave room for choice

Curiosity without pressure

Trying something new does not have to mean spending money, taking a risk or making a large commitment. It could be asking a question or exploring a different way to do a familiar activity.

Spontaneity and impulsivity are not interchangeable. Enjoying novelty does not mean every quick decision is helpful. A pause can preserve a possibility while giving you space to choose. You can also prefer planning and predictability.
