BEYOND THE MEALTIME STRUGGLES
Supporting Your Child Through the Whole Day, Not Just at the Table

ARFID Parents Series - Resource 6

ARFID can shape far more than breakfast, lunch and dinner. A child's eating difficulty may affect school, concentration, friendships, parties, travel, sleep, family routines, confidence and their ability to participate in everyday life.

This in-depth parent guide looks at the whole day rather than isolating the meal. It explores mornings, school lunch, after-school depletion, sensory load, transitions, neurodivergence, constipation and gut symptoms, sleep, friendships, holidays, siblings, parent exhaustion and the ways family life can gradually become smaller around food.

It also includes practical whole-day mapping, school planning, backup-food planning, professional questions, warning signs and ways of recognising progress outside dietary variety.

A substantial “From My Side of the Table” section brings Maggie's lived perspective with ARFID into the resource while keeping personal experience distinct from clinical information.

The central message is that supporting ARFID means supporting the whole child through the whole day - protecting nutrition while also protecting participation, relationships, confidence and quality of life.
