Switching Tasks with ADHD

A little space between activities can make a difference.

Moving from one activity to another can be difficult with ADHD. Stopping, remembering where you were and getting started again may take effort. Experiences vary with the task, the setting and how you are feeling.

What makes this switch difficult?

Tap a situation for a practical idea. Choose what fits; there is no score.

Which situation feels familiar?

Try a gentler transition

Move through these at a pace that suits you.

Make room for the change

A calendar reminder can signal a change, but the switch itself may still need time. Where possible, leave a buffer between activities and reduce unnecessary interruptions. Try one adjustment at a time.

You might say: “I can move to that next. Please give me a moment to save my work and note where I am.” If demands conflict, asking which task takes priority can reduce the pressure of deciding alone.
