AUTISM MUM SUPPORT - THE MENTAL LOAD OF BEING AN AUTISM MUM

The work of supporting an autistic child is not limited to the things other people can see. Behind everyday family life there can be an enormous invisible mental load: remembering appointments, anticipating sensory needs, planning transitions, managing school communication, keeping safe foods available, thinking several steps ahead and carrying the emotional needs of the household.

The Mental Load of Being an Autism Mum explores what happens when Mum becomes the family's memory, planner, organiser, advocate and problem-solver. It looks at anticipatory thinking, decision fatigue, the difference between receiving help and genuinely sharing responsibility, the pressure of other people's judgement and practical ways of moving information and responsibilities out of Mum's head.

This downloadable resource includes a three-list reset, practical mental-load strategies, a personal check-in, UK support starting points and a message from Maggie.

This is not about becoming better organised so that you can carry even more. It is about recognising how much you are already carrying - and finding places where some of that weight can be shared.
