This Environment Is Too Much
A neurodivergent interactive sensory and environmental overload resource

Sometimes the difficulty is not inside the person — the environment itself is asking too much of the nervous system.

This interactive guide helps neurodivergent users identify what in their surroundings may be creating overload. It explores sound, lighting and visual input, smells, touch and clothing, crowds and personal space, movement, unpredictability, temperature and physical comfort.

Users can record what feels hardest, what they want to escape from, how their body is responding and what they feel an urge to do. The guide then turns towards practical environmental changes: what needs to be quieter or lower, what could be removed, and what could be added to make participation more accessible.

It also includes language for explaining sensory needs to another person, a tailored message from Maggie and further reading.

Rather than asking someone to simply tolerate more, This Environment Is Too Much encourages them to notice the relationship between their surroundings and their nervous system — and to identify changes that may genuinely reduce the load.
