4-6 Breathing

4–6 Breathing

Why can it help?

Stress can leave us taking rapid breaths without even noticing. Breathing in for four and gently out for six deliberately reduces the breathing rate while making the exhale slightly longer.

This can help reduce some of the physical activation associated with stress and encourage the body towards a calmer state.

The numbers aren’t magic, they’re simply a guide. The important part is comfortable, gentle breathing rather than achieving a perfect count.

Think: Slow and comfortable, not big and deep.
