NOTICE, NAME AND BE KIND
Notice, Name and Be Kind is a practical Maggie's Coaching resource built around three simple steps for responding to difficult emotions with greater awareness and less self-criticism.
The guide begins with NOTICE - learning to observe changes in the body, thoughts, behaviour, environment and capacity before immediately judging them. It then moves into NAME, helping readers find a word, colour, number or image for what they are experiencing. The final step, BE KIND, explores what a genuinely supportive response might look like.
This is not about forced positivity. The PDF looks closely at the difference between kindness and avoidance, showing how self-kindness can include accountability, difficult conversations, boundaries, asking for help and taking action when something needs to change.
A dedicated neurodivergent section considers alexithymia, interoception, sensory overload and emotional intensity. It offers alternatives to traditional emotion labelling, including body sensations, visual scales, colours and numbers, alongside practical regulation and communication ideas.
The resource also tackles common self-critical thoughts such as 'I'm too sensitive', 'I'm lazy' and 'I should be able to cope', showing how these judgements can be translated into more useful questions about capacity, needs and support.
Practical pages include a three-minute Notice-Name-Be Kind practice, a full worksheet, personalised kindness phrases, a pattern tracker, weekly reflection questions, guidance for very intense emotions, signs that additional professional help may be needed and UK urgent-support information.
The final section contains a personal message from Maggie, a Carl Rogers person-centred quotation and perspective, recommended books, further support options, clinical notes and references.
The central message is that kindness does not mean ignoring problems. It means giving yourself enough safety and understanding to respond to them more effectively.
