Understanding Physical Needs & Wellbeing

Physical Health & Body Awareness

A supportive interactive guide to understanding the body's signals, recognising changing physical needs and developing practical ways to respond with greater awareness and compassion.

Your body does not have to communicate in the same way as someone else's. Some people recognise hunger, pain, thirst, fatigue or emotional changes easily. Others experience these signals differently, notice them later or find them difficult to interpret. There is no requirement to identify every sensation correctly. The aim is to develop useful awareness without pressure or judgement.

Body awareness is individual. Some symptoms may require medical assessment rather than self-management. Seek urgent medical help for severe, sudden or potentially dangerous symptoms, such as chest pain, severe breathing difficulty, sudden weakness or confusion. In the UK, call 999 for an emergency. NHS 111 can advise about urgent but non-emergency concerns.

This resource supports reflection and everyday awareness. It is not intended to diagnose or treat a medical condition.
