Pursed-Lip Breathing
Why can it help?
Breathing out through gently pursed lips naturally creates some resistance to the outgoing breath, which can make the exhale slower and more controlled.
It can be useful when breathing has become quick or shallow because it encourages you to slow down without deliberately taking enormous breaths.
Keeping the inhale and exhale gentle is important. Taking repeated very deep breaths when anxious can sometimes contribute to light-headedness or tingling.
Think: I don’t need more air, I can simply let my breathing become slower.
