When You Can’t Fall Asleep
Being unable to fall asleep can quickly turn into a battle with sleep itself. Clock watching, worrying about tomorrow, changing position repeatedly and trying harder and harder to sleep can sometimes leave you feeling even more awake.
This workbook helps you gently explore what happens on the nights when sleep simply isn’t arriving.
You’ll identify your usual responses to being awake, explore the trying-to-sleep cycle and look at what might be keeping you awake tonight from racing thoughts and physical discomfort to noise, temperature, stimulation or unfinished tasks.
Rather than promising a trick that will instantly make you sleep, the activities focus on reducing pressure and helping you respond to wakefulness in a calmer, more supportive way.
You’ll build your own practical plan for difficult nights, including what you can try when remaining in bed is making you increasingly frustrated or alert.
Expect: pattern spotting, sleep-cycle reflection, practical nighttime strategies and your own plan for nights when sleep isn’t coming.
