Yoga for Autism
Yoga for Autism is an autism-affirming Space to Breathe Therapy resource focused on regulation, sensory comfort, choice and predictability — not on changing autistic people or making them appear calmer.
Inside the full guide are six adaptable options: Child's Pose, Cat-Cow, Seated Butterfly, Seated Twist, Legs Up the Wall and Reclined Rest. Every movement is optional and the guide explains how to adapt the practice for different sensory and interoceptive needs.
The PDF explores how to make yoga more autism-friendly by reducing language, making transitions visible, respecting stimming and natural movement, allowing repetition and using external grounding when breath or internal body focus feels uncomfortable.
There is also guidance for lower-demand practice after overload or shutdown, plus a Regulation Tracker to help readers notice sensory load, what movement or rest they tried, what was helpful and what they needed afterwards.
The guide finishes with reflection prompts, an evidence-informed note and a personal supportive message from Maggie: you do not need to become calmer, quieter or less autistic to deserve support.
Yoga is presented as an optional wellbeing tool, not a treatment for autism and not a way to suppress autistic traits.
Until next time, give yourself space to breathe.
With love,
Maggie
