Yoga for Better Sleep
Poor sleep can make mood, concentration, pain and everyday demands feel harder. A gentle evening yoga routine may help the body shift away from the activity of the day and towards rest by combining slower movement, comfortable positions and calm breathing.
Keep the practice simple and predictable. Dim the lights, reduce stimulation and choose poses that feel supported rather than effortful. Child's pose, knees to chest, a supported twist, legs up the wall and savasana can all be adapted with pillows or blankets. There is no need to stretch deeply or hold a position that feels uncomfortable.
Try practising at roughly the same time each evening and treat it as a signal that the day is winding down. If breath holding feels uncomfortable, use a natural, unforced exhale instead. Yoga cannot guarantee sleep, and struggling to sleep is not a personal failure. If sleep problems are persistent, severe or affecting safety and daily functioning, speak with a healthcare professional.
A gentle reminder: Work within your own comfort and seek individual medical or professional advice where needed.
Until next time, give yourself space to breathe.
With love, Maggie
