Yoga for Depression
What this resource is for
When depression makes everything feel heavy, movement can seem like one more demand. This resource offers a gentler approach. Yoga does not have to be energetic or perfect to be worthwhile; a few supported movements, a comfortable resting pose or several slow breaths can create a small pause in the day.
Using the guide gently
The guide introduces a calming 4-4-6 breathing pattern alongside accessible poses including Child’s Pose, Cat-Cow, Seated Forward Fold, Legs Up the Wall and Savasana. These practices may help ease physical tension, support relaxation and reconnect you with your body. Choose only what feels manageable. Even two minutes counts, and rest is always a valid option.
An important note
Depression is not a personal failure, and healing rarely follows a straight line. Yoga can sit alongside therapy, medication, medical care and support from people you trust; it is not a replacement for them. If you feel unsafe or unable to cope, seek urgent professional support.
A supportive message from Maggie
You do not need to wait for motivation before offering yourself care. Begin where you are, move gently and notice any small shift without judging it. You are enough, you matter and you belong.
Until next time, give yourself space to breathe.
With love, Maggie
