Adult Child’s Guide: When a Parent Has an Addiction
Growing up with — or continuing to live alongside — a parent’s addiction can leave you carrying responsibilities that were never really yours. I created this guide specifically for adult sons and daughters. It looks at the roles we can learn in an unpredictable family, guilt about saying no, money, boundaries, contact with a parent, protecting grandchildren and making room for your own life. It also includes reflection space, books and support information. You can care about your parent without becoming responsible for their recovery.
This is a resource for you as the adult child — not another list of things you should be doing for your parent. Inside you will also find a personal boundaries and support-plan page, carefully chosen book recommendations and places to look for further help.
