DID YOU KNOW? — CANNABIS: EFFECTS, DEPENDENCE & SAFETY

The noticeable “high” is only one part of how cannabis can affect the body and brain. This downloadable fact sheet explores THC, memory, concentration, coordination, mental health, dependence and driving.

Inside, you will find clear information about short-term effects such as changes in perception, problems with memory and concentration, anxiety, paranoia and impaired judgement. It also explains why cannabis affects people differently and why the strength of a product matters.

The fact sheet looks at dependence and possible withdrawal experiences, including cravings, irritability, anxiety, sleep disturbance, vivid dreams, changes in appetite and difficulty concentrating. It also explores the relationship between cannabis and mental health, including the increased risk of psychotic illness for some people.

A dedicated safety section explains why feeling that the “high” has worn off should not be used as a test of whether someone is fit or legally able to drive.

This is a non-judgemental resource designed to increase understanding, help people recognise patterns in their cannabis use and make it easier to know when additional support may be useful.
