Work Addiction

When productivity and achievement leave little room for rest or life outside work.

I have created this resource because addiction does not always involve alcohol or drugs. Sometimes a behaviour that began as enjoyment, distraction, comfort, connection or a way of coping gradually starts to feel less like a choice.

In this guide I look at work addiction with compassion rather than judgement. We explore what can make the behaviour so compelling, the signs that it may be taking up too much space, how it can affect emotional and physical wellbeing, and some practical ways to begin creating a little more choice.

I think it is important to look beyond the behaviour itself. Often there is a reason we keep returning to something: anxiety, loneliness, overwhelm, boredom, low mood, a need for stimulation, a wish to switch off, or simply a habit that has become deeply embedded. Understanding that need can be an important part of changing the pattern.

You do not have to wait until everything has fallen apart before seeking support. If you recognise yourself in this resource, use it as a gentle opportunity to notice what is happening and think about one manageable next step.
