Making Safeguarding Personal
Keeping the person’s wishes, choices and outcomes at the centre of safeguarding
Making Safeguarding Personal is an approach to adult safeguarding that focuses on working with a person rather than simply carrying out safeguarding processes around them.
This resource explores person-led and outcome-focused safeguarding, including what meaningful outcomes can look like, accessible participation, autonomy, consent, capacity and advocacy.
It also considers situations where the person’s preferred outcome differs from what professionals or family members believe should happen.
It includes:
- What Making Safeguarding Personal means
- Identifying outcomes that matter to the individual
- Keeping the person’s voice central
- Accessible communication
- The six safeguarding principles
- Consent and mental capacity
- Independent advocacy
- Balancing safety with autonomy
- Practical safeguarding examples
- What good person-centred safeguarding can look like
A supportive guide to safeguarding that recognises the person as an active participant in their own life rather than simply the subject of a safeguarding process.
